In airport check-in, some airlines weigh carry-on bags. If the bag is too heavy due to food that will be consumed in the airport, is that okay?
@gerrit - They may provide the option to purchase food (although a lot of that disappeared in the pandemic) and will provide drinks & mini snacks. These days Delta at least seems to do it by mileage flown delta.com/us/en/travel-planning-center/know-before-you-go/….

Probably depends at least in part on the airline. These days US domestic flights for the major airlines usually overlook a second carry-on that contains food as they no longer supply meals, so carrying the food in a separate bag through check in & security would be acceptable. I would suggest a separate bag for the food anyway - you can always explain that that is for airport consumption & the check-in agent can take a quick look and see that it really is food. But no guarantees.

Are paper banknotes used in Australia?
@Tetsujin I think it is there because the conversion is not just "multiply by 2", but has the additional step of "convert shillings to pounds" (eg £0.5) before "multiply by two". Without knowing if readers are familiar with shillings, stating the conversion here is the simplest approach.

Why does the TSA frisk you after having you pass through the scanner?
The scanners. Although I guess that could've been baggy trousers at the knee to show something there, and then beeped by the metal wand.

Sorry to hear you had such bad experiences. I have been frisked in sensitive areas a number of times but the agents have always been polite, explained what they needed to do, asked if I wanted it done in private and used the backs of their hands. So I second the suggestion to complain about these particular agents, even if you only have times & places to identify them with.

My mother's replacement knee triggers it from time to time (depending how sensitive the scanners are set, I guess)

@Willeke I have also been advised to ensure my trousers are fully pulled up so there is not extra bagginess in the groin area - frustrating when it is usually because I have just had to remove the belt!

Is a 50 minute connecting time through Helsinki possible?
The airlines have access to a lot of data for who made connections & who didn't, so if they are prepared to sell you a single ticket, that means they think an average person can make the connection. That doesn't factor in any personal factors that might slow you down though.

Which left turn light do I follow in this California intersection?
The circular red light has the arrow posted NEXT to it indicating it is for cars that are turning. I am more surprised that there seem to be two lanes going straight ahead and yet light 3 is on the side rather than on the gantry next to light 2

Is 55 minutes enough time for a connecting flight at Helsinki airport?
Good point that this may be more uncomfortable for a non-Schengen resident

Unpublished changes to travel rules
@fraxinus - The whole reason for revoking her citizenship was to deny her entry. So while technically a citizen must be allowed to enter, the fact that you are a citizen today doesn't mean you will always be allowed in.

Unpublished changes to travel rules
@fraxinus There is the current on-going situation with Shamima Begum (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamima_Begum) where the UK decided to withdraw her citizenship. The UK maintains she has an additional citizenship of Bangladesh but this is disputed, however she has been successfully kept out of the UK for years.

If I get a positive response on a Covid-19 test for the purpose of travelling to the USA, and then do another and get a negative, can I use that one?
@gerrit. There are many reasons at this time to want/need to travel which are not just for tourism, particularly visiting family or for necessary work/business reasons.

Can a US physician prescribe medications to non-US residents?
if you are bringing a lot of medication with you as suggested by @WGroleau, be sure to bring your own prescriptions proving these were doctor-ordered and approximately how long these are expected to last for. 999 times out of a 1000 it won't matter but on that one time it will really be good to save a Customs Officer or worse, DEA grilling.

Are self-administered COVID tests valid for Singapore pre-entry purposes?
@JulianaKarasawaSouza The comment was in response to a since-removed line in the answer about antigen tests being almost never accepted, not specifically about self-tests. However a lot of self-administered tests are sent away to a lab or video-checked by the provider who will give a lab report & certificate which is acceptable for travel. How can I fly for 13 hours with a back pain? On economy
@eps - finding empty rows depends very much on the flight / destination. During the current restrictions on travel to the USA, transatlantic flights have been almost guaranteed to have empty rows, but that will change in Nov when the restrictions are relaxed
