Baltimore is the largest city in the State of maryland in the Mid-Atlantic region of the usa, and a major port and industrial center on the Chesapeake Bay.
Although sometimes overshadowed by nearby washington-dc, Baltimore has an independent identity and culture and great local pride, with its distinctive history, cuisine, and even dialect, "Baltimorese."
Baltimore is situated between Washington and philadelphia on the amtrak Northeast Corridor and Interstate 95, with numerous regional rail, bus, and road connections. Its airport, BWI Marshall (bwi), is situated southwest of the city center, connected to the light rail system.
