Nov 29, 2014 at 15:42 | comment | added | AKS | I'm from a developing country as well, and I run an online business (though I wouldn't say "small"). You mentioning your boyfriend, and college education are probably the main reasons for the rejection. Opening a bank account a few weeks before the application wouldn't help either. When you try to re-apply, try to indicate that you have family in Kenya, and neither of you are ready to marry or plan on staying together in the near future. Showing a significant bank balance would also indicate you have no problem staying in your home country. Good luck!

Nov 28, 2014 at 14:10 | comment | added | ceejayoz | @thinlyveiledquestionmark No, it's not. She can have that opinion about her own individual relationship, but immigration officials know that some relationships work that way.
Nov 27, 2014 at 23:51 | comment | added | yuritsuki | @ceejayoz Who are you to judge? That is solely her own opinion.
Nov 27, 2014 at 18:43 | comment | added | ceejayoz | "Also, no, we will not have babies or get married just so that I can get a visa. Relationships don't work that way." Some do.
Nov 27, 2014 at 17:57 | comment | added | Quora Feans | If you are enrolling into a token course (not very expensive, not difficult to get into), then it won't improve your chances of getting into.
Nov 27, 2014 at 17:56 | comment | added | Quora Feans | Do not take Alexander's advice for granted. Marriage won't automatically grant you a resident permit (unless the partner can provide for the immigrating partner).
Nov 27, 2014 at 13:57 | comment | added | Gayot Fow | The additional evidence you intend to provide DOES NOT constitute justification; it shows your current situation in Kenya. Prepare for another refusal.
Nov 27, 2014 at 11:11 | comment | added | Alexander | Marriage would also help. Once you are married, Swedish authorities are even required to issue a residence permit.

Nov 27, 2014 at 10:11 | comment | added | monocell | In my (admittedly limited) experience, it might help if your boyfriend tried to get personally involved in the application. It certainly seemed to help for a friend of mine from Mauritania who where denied on his first attempt. He applied again, and I called the embassy and also migrationsverket several times to ask about the status of the application and also to complained about the first application being denied. Second attempt was successful. My interpretation is that the system is run by corrupt racists, but that's somewhat opinionated.

Nov 26, 2014 at 23:06 | comment | added | corsiKa | @dotancohen That reminds me of the time I was talking with an Indian friend of mine who said his visa to go to Italy had been approved. "Visa? Don't you just show up with your passport?" and he replies "Sure, if you're an American!" - I didn't realize that most countries' citizens have to ask first... I felt naive, to say the least.

Nov 26, 2014 at 16:42 | comment | added | dotancohen | Thank you for this wonderful question. Being from a developed nation, I have always viewed visas as being an unnecessary bureaucracy which is always approved. The answers here have opened my eyes as to א) the reasons for having visas, and ב) how privileged I am that they are always granted.
