Do I need to go through security at Newark airport after flying in from NC before boarding international flight to Ireland?

clarify itin. Given United's network, EWR being the connection point is by far the most likely scenario, and PVD only has one terminal

I'm on United from SFO to Providence with a stop for my connecting flight to Newarkat Newark, NJ. United all the way. Seems to me the last time I flew through Newark, they required I go through security again. Is that common practice at Newark?
