Sài Gòn as a city has continually grown through time and there are two distinctions on calling Saigon as a general city center, which even while living in Phú Nhuận, a district of the city, we still loosely referred to "going to Sài Gòn" as going to the city center, district 1 area around Bến Thành. When travelling from afar, the term going to Sài Gòn (đi Sài Gòn) means the city in general. | |
