Mar 25, 2015 at 19:59 | comment | added | Andrey Sapegin | @ Thorsten S. I agree. I just assume, that considering the visa history and other conditions, it was quite clear to Consulate, that my relatives are not going to violate any visa rules and so on.
Mar 25, 2015 at 19:58 | comment | added | Thorsten S. | @AndreySapegin Visits of parents are not uncommon, so if seems to be clear that there will be no trouble, consulates may be more lenient. §68 Abs.2 in fact only requires that the declaration must be in written form. And you are likely (?) from a more prosperous country than the OT. But it really sounds like: CHILDREN, DON'T DO THIS. THIS IS SOMEONE TAKING RISKS AND IT CAN HURT.

Mar 25, 2015 at 19:51 | comment | added | Andrey Sapegin | @Thorsten S. I also did it when I lived in the dormitory, I was enrolled in the Uni and had a residence permit for 1-2 years as a PhD student. So nothing special. I think it more depends from the Consulate and also the fact, that my relatives had/have a very long "visa history" without any problems and could prove their financial status. The Consulate I would not like to name, just in case they could stop accepting it.

Mar 25, 2015 at 19:33 | comment | added | Thorsten S. | @AndreySapegin Your approach of writing an own "Verpflichtungserklärung" sounds extremely hairy. What are the circumstances when you wrote this (own appartment, financial status, which Consulate) as a rough overview ?

Mar 25, 2015 at 17:23 | comment | added | O. R. Mapper | @AndreySapegin: Ok, indeed state-specific then probably - I only ever had to provide a few (about three) recent consecutive salary notifications to show that sufficient income was available for tending to the invited persons. I did indeed wonder how that would provide any safety, given that in theory, I could quit my job the day after showing those recent salary notifications and end up without any money by the time the guests arrive.

Mar 25, 2015 at 16:58 | comment | added | Andrey Sapegin | If it is accepted by consulate (like in my case), it often makes sense to write by yourself, because in some States of Germany you need to freeze a significant amount of money on the account for each person you invite to get a formal one.
Mar 25, 2015 at 16:53 | comment | added | O. R. Mapper | ... However, WP does agree with you in that strictly speaking, one is not absolutely obliged to use the form. This information is not always readily provided by the respective administrative agencies, and I suspect it is maybe not known to them, though.
Mar 25, 2015 at 16:52 | comment | added | O. R. Mapper | @AndreySapegin: Maybe it depends on the host's state and/or the guest's nationality then? I used to go by the information provided by the Foreign Office, which says: "Zuständig für die Entgegennahme einer solchen Verpflichtungserklärung nach §§ 66 - 68 Aufenthaltsgesetz sind regelmäßig die deutschen Ausländerbehörden am Wohnort des Einladers. Dort sind auch die entsprechenden Formulare erhältlich." ...
Mar 25, 2015 at 16:48 | comment | added | Andrey Sapegin | @O.R.Mapper. I wrote it by myself many times for my relatives and one time for my friend, and every time it was accepted by consulate. However, yes, you could also get an formal document like you mentioned. I did it once as well. It is up to you to decide if you want to write it yourself, or get a formal one (I do not guarantee anything in case you write it yourself, all I can say is that it just works for me, and that formal one is not required by law).
Mar 25, 2015 at 16:37 | comment | added | O. R. Mapper | From what I have seen when inviting non-European guests, a "Verpflichtungserklärung" is a formal document (like this) that can be issued by town administration (Bürgerbüro) in exchange for various documents that prove your steady income etc. You cannot just write it yourself.
Mar 25, 2015 at 15:25 | comment | added | Pony | I did write them an informal invitation at first; but then they asked for an official invivation. And now after this another proof of accomodation :D I guess I have to book the hotel and cancel it - hope it does not create problems when they arrive here...
