Nov 28, 2014 at 13:35 | comment | added | WoJ | @GayotFow: they did not, as far as I can tell. If your comment was about that particular flight from that particular country to that other particular country - then YES, they were probably obligated to do so. Sorry for having discussed the general case. In that case I do not understand why you even bothered to answer my first comment, where I mentioned Europe.
Nov 28, 2014 at 13:27 | comment | added | cpast | For that matter, since when did domestic flights require passports at any point in the travel process?
Nov 28, 2014 at 13:21 | comment | added | Gayot Fow | Hmmm... When did the Emirates and India join the Schengen agreement? I seem to have missed that one.
Nov 28, 2014 at 13:11 | comment | added | WoJ | @GayotFow: this is probably the case for some (or most) international flights -- certainly not within the Schengen Area. This is neither the case in many of the domestic flights I did. Therefore they are not obligated to do so on all flights.
Nov 28, 2014 at 12:33 | comment | added | Gayot Fow | @WoJ, no. The airline faces serious fines and other sanctions if they arrive with undocumented passengers. Not just fines and sanctions either. The penalties can include revoking their license to land in that country altogether.
Nov 28, 2014 at 12:31 | comment | added | David Richerby | I feel sure that this is a duplicate but I can't find the other question. Anyone?
Nov 28, 2014 at 12:25 | comment | added | WoJ | @GayotFow: I do not think they are obligated to check your passport, this is not their job. They just need to make sure that the number of check-ins = the number of boarded passengers. My passport usually stays in my bag when flying within Europe and checking-in online with no luggage to check-in.
Nov 28, 2014 at 5:16 | comment | added | bobbyalex | Doesn't your daughter have an obligation to check whether she has a visa before travelling somewhere?

Nov 27, 2014 at 20:51 | comment | added | Gayot Fow | The airline did what they are required to do. They checked her passport before allowing her to board. That's all they are OBLIGATED to do. You should be grateful that they prevented an administrative refusal in India.
