Jun 21, 2015 at 17:51 comment added Spehro 'speff' Pefhany Seems like there is a lot of info in yachting forums on this subject. Many (declared, with non-resident permit and with firearm and ammo properly stored) long guns are okay to bring into Canadian waters AFAIUI, but self-defense is not a valid reason to have it. Other countries will vary. If you actually use the firearm for self defense against 2-legged types, be fully prepared to face a serious criminal charge (obligatory judged by 12 vs. carried by six quip). Flare guns are not classed as firearms in Canada unless you use it as a firearm, then (for legal purposes) it is a firearm.
