The airline staff will have seen a temporary travel document and wouldn't be surprised. If the check-in staff does not understand what's going on, they will have a manager/supervisor who does.
Dec 9, 2019 at 16:32 comment added sbsatter thank you for your answer. As a matter of fact, Cathay Pacific/Dragon travelers do not need a transit visa in HK. I have collected the emergency travel doc from my embassy. Recent developments have probably incorporated use of face recognition to check travelers out of the country - giving no seal to their passports. So I'm guessing crossing the immigration shouldn't be a problem right? However, should the airlines not bother about this temporary document, I am good to go. I just don't want to end up in uncertainty.
