Mar 18, 2013 at 11:58 comment added jwenting When I visited the USSR back in the late 1980s there were very few roadsigns directing traffic, in large part because travel was discouraged no doubt and those that need to travel know where to go. Maybe the reason there's still no or very few such signs (when visiting Uzbekistan a few years ago there were still almost no long distance roadsigns for example). Another reason may be the scarcity of roads outside of cities in large parts of the former USSR.

Mar 17, 2013 at 15:41 comment added gerrit I'm still wondering if there isn't a sign to Moscow somewhere in Siberia at more than 5000 km distance. For example, it's 5179 km from Irkutsk to Moscow according to Google Maps. Unfortunately, Google Streetview presently doesn't go further east than Krasnoyarsk (and I haven't found any road signs there either).
