A red flag does not necessarily imply a refusal.

It seems an absurd idea, like what is wrong with a long-distance girlfriend visiting me?! Or is this nonsense that I should ignore?

May 14, 2019 at 11:28 | comment | added | Dmitry Grigoryev | @ajmedway You should invite your girlfriend for short stays in UK, and visit her in Serbia. If you only spent together those 5 days, don't rush into marriage unless you know her better (that's just common sense). When you're certain about the marriage, you can apply for the marriage visa, or even marry her in Serbia.
May 14, 2019 at 10:21 | comment | added | ajmedway | @domen I see, but what else can I do? Move to Serbia, right?
May 14, 2019 at 10:15 | comment | added | domen | Right. Anyway, my point was that while this answer might suggest a good solution, it's in my opinion incomplete, because it does not address this being a red flag (marriage for visa/citizenship is very much a thing).
May 14, 2019 at 10:02 | comment | added | ajmedway | @domen flights Belgrade to Newcastle are actually with a connection and take 6+ hours... she will visit here twice and I will visit Belgrade once more before applying for a marriage visa.
May 14, 2019 at 9:37 | comment | added | domen | From what I understand there was a one 5 day visit. Flight takes only 2h or so. I know long distance is a thing, but this would raise red flags for me.
May 14, 2019 at 9:36 | comment | added | ajmedway | @DmitryGrigoryev We have been in contact via internet-based friendship for a few years but in recent 3 months in regular/daily phone contact and I have been to Serbia for 5 days.
May 14, 2019 at 9:33 | comment | added | Dmitry Grigoryev | @domen What counts as a "quick marriage"? Anyway, the OP doesn't seem to mention how long they have been in a relationship.
May 14, 2019 at 9:25 | comment | added | domen | On the other hand, won't a very quick marriage raise red flags?
