Jul 22, 2011 at 19:35 comment added hippietrail Indeed. And for the record I did get sick in Mumbai from eating street food (a pakora or similar) but mine only lasted 24 hours. My travelmate unfortunately got something more stubborn that lasted a week or two and a friend of hers with previous travel experience in India got so sick we had to cancel our camel trek.

Jul 22, 2011 at 19:19 comment added hippietrail I didn't mean popularity as a guarantee, just as a hint. As you say sometimes you get sick not from food poisoning but just from accustomed to things. I believe this is mostly related to our gut flora. Also boiling water is not a guarantee. Some things that make us sick build up in our bodies, especially heavy metals such as arsenic. But yes I've had food poisoning more often in the first world and Indians also get gastro in India...
