Jul 9, 2018 at 15:55 comment added L5uxxie @JonathanReez it's not written down anywhere but having a Western passport does help in general travel situations like this. The airline staff will be more familiar with dealing with this document and be less cautious. I used to travel with an Antiguan passport (born there, not by investment) and airline staff used to regularly pull me aside, particularly in Asia, and immigration generally took longer despite having visa-free rights as most Western citizens. Now travelling with a U.K passport I never encounter any problems, through it is issued in Gibraltar which confuses some.

Jul 6, 2018 at 14:19 comment added David Richerby @L5usxe OK, so please edit that into your answer. However, is that really the policy? Allowing visa-free transit is surely intended to allow actual transit, not just "being in the transit area for up to 24 hours". The asker is not transiting so it's not clear that your suggestion is OK (by the letter of the law or, more importantly by what Russia will enforce or, even more importantly, by what the airline thinks Russia might enforce).
Jul 6, 2018 at 10:42 comment added RedBaron 24 hour visa free transit stay should be dependent on traveller producing an onward ticket (which is what another answer suggests)
Jul 6, 2018 at 9:59 comment added L5uxxie Yes, Russia has a policy where a foreign national can stay for up to 24 hours in the transit area of an airport.
Jul 5, 2018 at 19:55 comment added David Richerby "A person is allowed to stay in the transit area of the airport for up to 24 hours without a visa" That surely varies between countries, and is false for the US, for example. Are you claiming that Russia has this policy?
