The capital and largest city of the Republic of Georgia.

The city of Tbilisi is the largest city in the country of Georgia and its capital. The city was founded in the 5th century. It is located in the Caucasus mountains on the banks of Kura River.

The city because of it proximity to the East-West trading route has made the city a target for foreign invaders.

The city's name comes from the old Georgian word "Tpili" meaning warm referring to the numerous sulphuric hot springs which give Tbilisi one of its best known attractions the Tbilisi Sulphur Baths located according to legend in the place where King Vahtang's falcon fell into the hot spring during his hunt.
