A procedure for expulsion or exclusion from a country of an undesired, usually foreign, individual. May be voluntarily or involuntarily. Removal most often occurs at a port of entry when an individual is found to be unqualified to enter. Removal affects all entrants (including visa on arrival) who are found to be unqualified. Removals can also occur in-country when a person has failed to observe the terms and conditions of their visa.

The media attempts to be more dramatic by using the term 'deportation'. This is a malapropism and red-top froth. Deportation is a procedure taking place in a criminal court after the person has served a custodial sentence.
