Podgorica is the capital and largest city of Montenegro. In contemporary history, the city was also known as Titograd from 1946 to 1992 during the existence of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The city's population was 156 169 according to the 2011 census. The Podgorica municipality contains 10.4% of Montenegro's territory and 29.9% of its population. It is the administrative centre of Montenegro and its economic, cultural and educational focus.
