I am a Permanent Resident with a Green Card, holding an Indian passport and a UK Tourist Visa valid from November 30, 2023, for a duration of six months. I'm considering taking a flight from the US on November 29, 2023, and arriving in the UK on the same day my visa becomes valid. The airline has reassured me that this arrangement shouldn't be an issue, as I'll have a valid UK visa upon landing. However, I am unsure if there might be any complications at the airport or during the boarding process on the day before my UK visa becomes valid.

  • This is a common scenario and you shouldn’t have any problem, IMHO. Perhaps if eg the flight departure time was brought forward significantly, or it is scheduled to land in the UK very shortly after midnight but the flight boarding team know in advance that the flight will land early (ie still on 29 Nov), but both ‘what ifs’ are probably pretty far-fetched.

The cited duplicate refers to the Schengen area; this question addresses UK practice. While I agree these jurisdictions are likely to act in the same manner, there's no showing that they will do so in this situation. I think this question should remain open. Nov 17 at 21:07
