I have a Schengen Visa issued by the Embassy of Norway valid from July 2018 to July 2019. I applied for and received another visa from July 2019 (the second day after the previous visa's expiry date) until July 2020.

In a telephone conversation with an employee at the embassy, I was told (verbally) that the previous visa is cancelled.

However, I have noticed that:

  1. No cancellation stamp was put on the visa itself.
  2. No document was attached to the passport stating that the previous valid visa is cancelled.

This is especially notable as I had a similar case in the past with the same embassy (in another country), and there was no cancellation of the previous visa and no interruption of my stay in the Schengen Area when the first visa expired and the following visa started!

My question is: How can I get accurate information about the visa status in order to avoid any complications with Customs in any EU country within June?

  • The most accurate information will come from the authorities themselves, not random guys on the internet. You simply have to take what you’ve been told at face value, unfortunately. Commented May 24, 2019 at 13:47
  • Is your new visa also from Norway? Commented May 25, 2019 at 2:40
  • This might just be a ‘lost in translation’ misunderstanding.

In a telephone conversation with an employee at the embassy, I was told (verbally) that the previous visa is cancelled [revoked].

This information is faulty, since the new visa starts directly after the previous one.

A Schengen visa may not overlap, so the second will start when the first ends. There is no need for the older visa to be revoked.

Visa Code Handbook I
1.3 Visa application from a person holding a valid short stay visa
In principle, a person cannot hold two valid short stay visas covering the same period.
If an applicant holds a valid visa but which does not cover the next intended stay entirely, the currently valid visa should not be revoked, but the period of validity of the next visa should start on the day following the expiry of the currently valid one. This should apply irrespective of whether the first visa was issued by another Member State or for another travel purpose.
In exceptional cases, a consulate can deviate from the above principle in circumstances ...

A visa will only be revoked if the older visa cannot be used for the planned visit

  • your visa is valid to 2024-04-30, but you want to enter on the 25th but only have 3 days left on your old visa
    • the old visa will be revoked (with a stamp) effective the 25th and a new visa issued starting the 25th that allows you to stay for a longer period

How can I get accurate information about the visa status in order to avoid any complications with Customs [Immigration] in any EU country within June?

Since there is no gap between the 2 visas the whole period is covered (you do not have to leave and reenter).

Only if the 2 visas overlap, then the first visa should then have a ‘REVOKED’ stamp on it.

You should have received email and letter (in hard copy) from the UDI office, regarding the possible outcome of your visa application. In the case of rejection, the letter/email specifies it clearly. It is easy to fall into prey these days due to scammers who spoof the phone numbers, so just call UDI and inquire your matter in more detail. Also, don't forget to ask for the outcome of the application in written format. This is your right according to Norwegian laws.
