Jul 12, 2016 at 12:28 comment added Fattie hi @J.Constantine - that's great to hear!! And yes IT WILL ABSOLUTELY WAIT FOR YOU. it's completely and totally normal that people in trucks, unusually shaped vehicles, etc etc simply stop with the vehicle well off to the side, and step right out of the vehicle to do it - obviously turning off the engine for safety. Lets pray that more people focus on safety - and safety starts with situational awareness, which means total calm.
Jul 12, 2016 at 11:11 comment added AndyT @JoeBlow - The OP doesn't need to rush through the toll booth; I agree with that. But turning the engine off and getting out the car is manifestly not normal, and will annoy people behind. I expect to wait 10-20 seconds for people to sort themselves out, not 3 minutes.
Jul 12, 2016 at 8:41 comment added Belle @JoeBlow I'm a very calm driver and I couldn't care less about drivers that are in a hurry :) I didn't know it will wait, that's good to know
Jul 11, 2016 at 11:54 comment added Fattie Fortunately the answer has a few upvotes, and I hope the OP totally lets go of the idea that one has to rush through a tool booth. Because behaving unthinkingly in a car - fumbling for your wallet, etc - at any time and in any way - means one thing, death.
Jul 11, 2016 at 11:47 comment added Lilienthal "This is utterly normal." Getting out of the car to use a card reader that's conveniently located at car window height is normal? And you see at least 15% of drivers do this? Where the hell are you driving? That's just manifestly untrue for every country I've ever driven through. And if you dawdle at a toll booth you better hope you don't have someone behind you who's having a really bad day. Standard behaviour is safe behaviour on the road.
Jul 11, 2016 at 10:34 comment added Xen2050 @DavidRicherby many roads do have a minimum speed limit... though actually driving the posted maximum speed limit is enough to attract tailgater's and be cut off on many roads too. No matter you do (no fault of your own) what there's probably someone driving somewhere behind you that's upset
Jul 10, 2016 at 18:56 comment added David Richerby "the only thing other drivers want is for you to be safe - there is zero other consideration on the road" I'm sorry but that's manifestly untrue. Sure, other road users want you to be safe but they also want you to make reasonably timely progress. Just try driving down a city street at 5mph if you want to learn about other drivers' attitudes to safety versus not being in everybody's way.
