May 21, 2015 at 15:44 comment added jvriesem @Karlson: Almost...but not completely. Also, it's not all at sea level, which my estimates were based on. Even small topography variations can make the difference between a mile or two of horizon visibility.
May 21, 2015 at 12:32 comment added Karlson @jvriesem In what context? The topography of the area is basically completely flat.
May 21, 2015 at 7:35 comment added jvriesem On the observation deck, at 412 m above ground level, the horizon is between 45 and 50 miles away from the base of the tower. Depending on the local topography, that comment about Wisconsin being 50 miles away IS relevant!

Jan 6, 2015 at 18:56 comment added Karlson @Chuu Consider straight line for visibility vs. the interstate. Bristol Renaissance Faire is 53 miles from Downtown Chicago.
Jan 6, 2015 at 18:53 comment added Chuu Isn't Wisconsin more than 50 miles from downtown Chicago? It takes more than an hour on I-94 to get to the border.
