May 22, 2019 at 15:21 comment added Muzer @PraphullaKoushik I will write an answer which goes into more detail about rail ticketing.
May 22, 2019 at 15:18 comment added Muzer @PraphullaKoushik Whichever option you choose though, you should just need to buy one ticket for the whole journey from Oxford to Edinburgh - you don't need to buy separate tickets for separate train companies; the ticketing is all integrated for rail.
May 22, 2019 at 15:17 comment added Muzer @PraphullaKoushik most rail journey planners will show both options. Going via London would involve getting a train to London Paddington, catching the London Underground to King's Cross, and catching a train from there to Edinburgh. The trains themselves will be pretty fast but the time crossing London could add significantly to the journey. Going via Birmingham you would catch a CrossCountry train to Birmingham or (I would recommend) Wolverhampton (it's an easier station to change at), then catch a Virgin Trains service from there to Edinburgh.
May 22, 2019 at 15:17 comment added CMaster @PraphullaKoushik just put your journey from oxford to Edinburgh in this site nationalrail.co.uk to see the times, prices and routes for the train.
May 22, 2019 at 15:15 comment added Muzer Perhaps worth adding details on excursions to places further afield especially from Edinburgh by rail, as there's lots of places a tourist might like to visit that aren't in Edinburgh.
May 22, 2019 at 15:15 comment added Praphulla Koushik @henning so you think is a better way from Oxford to Edinburgh is not through London but to go to Birmingham. If possible can you please tell how to go from Birmingham
May 22, 2019 at 15:13 comment added hmakholm left over Monica London will be a definite detour when going from Oxford to Edinburgh by train, tough. It's generally faster to take a train from Oxford towards Birmingham and change there (or sometimes further north).
