I'd steer children and parents toward a real toy shop, or a “cartoleria” or at the very least to a Chinese general store.

Oct 9, 2018 at 10:45 | comment | added | Max | @undercat LOL, I'm not looking for a long term toy, just something for the boys to play for a couple of hours to spend off some energy.
Oct 9, 2018 at 7:03 | comment | added | JoErNanO♦ | Just to clarify, are you afraid of being scammed, mugged, extorted in any way, whilst being distracted by the sale?
Oct 9, 2018 at 7:01 | comment | added | undercat | A street peddler toy will unlikely explode in your face, but may not be the wisest long-term investment... Health-wise, I'd say it's "safe" as long as you don't lick it or put it in your mouth.

Oct 9, 2018 at 6:11 | comment | added | Max | safe to buy. (will edit the question)
Oct 8, 2018 at 22:11 | comment | added | Traveller | Does ‘safe’ refer to the act of buying the toys, or the quality of the toys themselves? Maybe you could just say no to the kids when they ask, or have a quiet word with the parents beforehand.
Oct 8, 2018 at 21:13 | comment | added | shoover | This question reminds me of a question about unscrupulous street vendors in Milan and another question about similar unscrupulous hawkers in Paris.
