On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hi all! For those of you who don't know me, here are some personal facts about me:

  • I'm around 27 years old and I live in Central Europe
  • I love to travel and I particularly like to visit countries in Europe by all means (cars, trains, ferries, buses, etc.), but I also like to see other countries all over the world!
  • I'm working in the computer science area.

Even though, I'm very happy with the current moderators, I want to nominate myself, because I think I'm a suitable candidate, have some free time, and because I want to participate even more in this awesome sites. You should vote for me, because: :)

  • I visited this site almost every day and I really would like to improve this awesome site even more.
  • I'm a frequent reviewer (565 reviews)
  • I'm tolerant!

Hiya! Most of the regulars probably know me and have endured my nonsensical remarks in chat and comments already, but here's a short intro anyway:

  • 28 years old, Bulgarian, lives in Sweden.
  • Not the backpacking type, I follow a more organized and a bit pampered travel routine.
  • Trains <3 !
  • Enthusiastic cook, programmer, designer and engineer -- not necessarily in this order.

Reasons to vote for me:

  • I am well-versed in all matters SE, being an observer and active participant from the very beginning of Stack Overflow and Stack Exchange.
  • I consider myself tolerant and fairly conflict-averse. I believe in peaceful, intelligent discussions and can be convinced I'm wrong with the right arguments.
  • Even though I don't have much reputation, I am actively involved with keeping the site shipshape and shiny -- flagging, retagging, editing, commenting, reviewing and participating in meta.

Travel-SE doesn't have significant troubles with respect to moderation, and I think a laidback, laissez-faire approach should be sufficient. From observations, high-rep users already help a lot, and donning the mod hat should not be required often.

You may have seen me here, or on various other SE sites- network-wide I am fairly active, with over 100k rep. I am currently a mod on Security SE and Personal Productivity SE and my broad experience moderating there will be invaluable moderating anywhere.

I am generally a very level headed and impartial moderator, using my powers for good cleaning up, stepping in to cool hot heads and generally acting under guidance of the community.

I have been a member on Travel for 15 months and earned my fanatic badge a couple of months ago.

Vote for me and I'll help to continue moderating the direction this community is heading.

As per tradition, some background on me:

I am 41, have lived in Scotland, Germany, Denmark, Australia and the Falkland Islands, as well as working in 8 others, and managing a multicultural team across 18 countries.

I enjoy everything from business travel to camping with my kids.

Since moving from professional services into industry I have an extra 40 hours a week to use usefully, so I can certainly give Travel my attention.

Who is this Ankur Banerjee person anyway?

  • I'm 22, I live in the UK (previously lived in Singapore and India).
  • Current tally of countries visited: 20 (mostly South-East Asia and India).
  • Preferred style of travelling: Flashpacking. I love trains and buses and would choose them over flying. I like not having a fixed itinerary, rather, just "winging it".

Why do you want to run for moderator?

I'm currently one of the pro-tem moderators on this site and I've been active since July 2011. I'm ranked in the top 3 users on the site by reputation. I like to draw my answers from first-hand experience backed up with references.

With Travel.SE's graduation, we've seen increasing numbers of new users coming to the site. As a moderator, I would like to continue the guiding new and existing members of the community to make Travel.SE the uniquely-different Q&A site that it is.

Hello for all!

I think we had a great time here during the beta-phase, and I think we shouldn't change anything in moderation team.

If you think the same, vote for me, and let this site grow as it did last year!

This election is over.
