This doesn't really answer the question. The point is that there are TWO 0125s (local time) on that day - one before the switch, and then another an hour later after the switch.

They were transferring from AirAsia to Air New Zealand. Presuming they had luggage, they would have needed to go airside to collect and re-check their luggage. Thus at least an ETA would have been required.

An internship would require at least a J1 visa, and whilst that may be possible it's a lot of effort to obtain both the internship and the visa.
