comment Do Hilton Points and Money stays count toward elite status?
Note that there's a catch to be aware of. If you have one reward night (including C+P), and one or more paid nights at the same hotel, then the entire stays is not eligible for points (other than incidentals). eg, have 4 paid nights, followed by 1 free night, and you get no points for any of it. On occasion this isn't enforced, but it normally is.

comment Is Puerto Rico domestic or international from the USA?
I've been to PR twice as a non-US citizen, both times traveling from the mainland. On neither occasion did I need to talk to CBP, and on neither occasion did I need to show my passport (I have a US drivers license). However, any non-Citizen should always travel with their passport, especially when travelling to areas like PR or the border states. Regardless, none of this is relevant for the original question.

comment New device checking rules for flights to/from USA
The TSA has no control over flights to/from the UK (except those also to/from the US), so this is in effect a separate policy - even if it does mirror the US'es policy...

comment Documents necessary (and recommended) for first time travel to EU for US Citizen
@Tor-EinarJarnbjo Please re-read my answer. I explicitly stated that is was NOT a requirement, but that it is recommended - especially when the purpose of the visit is to meet a fiancee (where overstay would be a real concern). The quote I included states that they could refuse entry, which is also correct.

@Relaxed The policy is that you must show that "you do intend to leave the Schengen Area when the visa expires". This is explicitly called out in the Visa application process, and implicitly one of the criteria for travel without a visa. The easiest way to do this is to show a ticket outside of the US, but as my answer states it's not technically a requirement.

The provisions you are referring to apply only to US permanent residents, not all "US residents".

It's also 171 euro, which is more than US$200. Even the Hilton is 1/3rd less...

comment do i have to retrieve my luggage and re check in upon arrival at usa?
@LorenPechtel No, I'm not. For example, read the section entitled "Outbound: Air, Land and Sea" at dhs.gov/news/2012/09/11/… The fact that you don't see any such checks (other than occasional "random" checks, which normally aren't random!) doesn't mean that they don't exist.
