comment Can I check the “in-travel” status of my Oyster card?
Depending on your journey checking it can be important. I once emptied my oyster card (by accident) because I forgot to scan out. It charged me for a return journey along the whole length of the line.

comment How do airlines determine ticket prices?
As ITA mentions there are 3,604,439,023 flight combinations between BOS and SFO alone!Multiply this by all of the factors I mention above, it's impossible to work out.

comment How do airlines determine ticket prices?
I work for a travel firm, we communicate with flight systems to get prices, etc. There is no one answer to this question, the price is determined based on many many factors, who you bought it from, the yielding of the fare, the fare type (cat35, ITX, etc.), the airline, special offers, etc. There are whole computer systems dedicated to working this complexity out (ITA, Galileo, etc.), it is virtually impossible for a human to understand.

As I understand it, CSA are members of IATA. As a memeber of IATA they must abide by the Montreal Convention. This means the carrier has sole responsibility for the baggage once you check it in regardless of who detained it, etc. If CSA are not playing ball it could be worth contacting IATA directly to try and mediate/offer advise.

The ABTA cover is only valid if you've booked through a travel agent. the Airline itself won't be ABTA registered.

comment How many types of Pound Sterling are there and what is the relationship between them?
@DJClayworth There is no such thing as an Irish Pound any more, the Irish (republic of Ireland) is in the Euro zone now.

That is a very interesting point @StephenKennedy, I've added the cited reference. I might have to make this a wiki at this rate.
