comment US employer suggests two 90 day contract periods instead of work visa. Is this okay?
"this is an internship" - that is what J-1 is for. Much easier to get than H-1B.

comment Renting apartaments for less than month in Europe?
@Annoyed: First hand I know of that requirement in the Netherlands and Spain. In both cases you can get shorter contract, but it's kind of in gray zone, it won't be official rental contract. As far as I know other European countries have similar laws. In theory they are to protect tenants, in practice they are to protect hotel industry.

In many European countries rental contract for period shorter than 1 year is not even legal. Anything shorter falls under similar legal requirements as hotels.

comment How to intentionally get denied entry to the US, without getting into trouble?
"even visiting a church and asking to speak in confidence", that's like the worse advice ever. Spanish Catholic church is very hard-line on the Holy Matrimony, and they strongly oppose divorce. Besides, she's from Pakistan, thus most likely Muslim, not Catholic.

comment Is it possible for non-residents to shoot at a range in the State of Georgia (US)?
"bring your own legal firearm" -- isn't it the case that non-resident in normal circumstances cannot legally own firearm in US?

comment How does one know if a rental car takes diesel or gasoline?
@Karlson: most Mercedes-Benz diesel cars have CDI in the version name, with notable exception of ones equipped with BlueTec (which is diesel-only technology).

comment How does one know if a rental car takes diesel or gasoline?
@SantaC.: I'd understand that as D alone, not in combination with other letters. Which was in fact true. 30 years ago ;-)

comment How does one know if a rental car takes diesel or gasoline?
@RussellMcMahon: true you have to pay extra for diesel, but it's not unusual to get free upgrade without asking, just because they don't have the cheaper car you've reserved.

comment Arriving in the US from a non Visa Waiver country
Given that both Germany and Poland are Schengen, there is no real reason why not use German passport while leaving US.

comment Multiple visits to USA
Most countries (including US) have 183-day rule, which states that if you stay there 183 days or more, you're considered permanent resident (at least for taxation purposes). In other words with your 247 days you're de facto resident of US, yet you don't have official resident status.

comment Are international driving licences really necessary for any country?
In case on Spanish Guardia Civil it's a common scam to get their ticket quotas. The would as international licenses of EU citizens, while both Spanish and European law clearly states that any EU license is valid in all EU.

comment Is it possible to get a Russian visa with a Dutch passport while holding the Russian nationality?
@Annoyed: actually it also affects natural born Dutch if they go live abroad and obtain other nationality, they must give up Dutch nationality. Anyway, general rule is no double nationality, you're right that there are some exceptions.

@Annoyed: true, but just because they can doesn't mean that it's something average Joe will experience.
