comment Are there EU Regulations/Laws or French Laws regarding hotel services/amenities?
I think that's the most important sentence: If it was not mentioned before signing the contract, it is definitively not normal.

Just tell them that you don't need bed linen and use your sleeping bag ;)

@Gagravarr I can't scuba dive. But I0m willing to spend some time in learning some basic techniques. Shouldn't however take more than one day.

comment In which cultural regions is taking pictures of people considered offensive?
Just two weeks ago I've been in London and I've visited the flower market in Colombia Road. There a German tourist started to picture a flower girl without asking her. She got really really angry and shouted at him that it is very unfriendly no to ask before taking pictures.

Although it is really different from country to country and maybe region to region, I think it is always a good idea to ask before taking a picture of foreign people. That's just kind and shows respect.

comment Long walking trails in Europe with accommodation enroute
I'm not sure if this is too broad and I think there is a perfect example for a way, e.g. the Santiago de Compostela (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santiago_de_Compostela)

@Grzenio I think the want to force you to get their credit card. If you have this card, the miles don't expire anymore.
