comment Why do Indian citizens need many visas?
@Poldie It's somewhat speculative either way but my point is that process A has been in place for this reason all along. You need to assume it's not (which is no less speculative) to even think that whether process B is in place or not is relevant. My remark was just meant to make this easier to see.

I don't buy it. Eritrea is tiny and its citizens have very little access to other countries. Afghanistan is not that big and it's one of the worse passports to have.

comment In which developed countries (other than the US) does the price tag not usually show the final price to be paid?
@AdityaSomani The EU has a minimum of 15% VAT (with some exceptions and a complex system to regulate how the exceptions work) and many countries apply 20% and more.

@Tor-EinarJarnbjo Article 4b (5) provides another way out (after the report that pushed the deadline to 2016).

comment Bank balance for getting a Schengen visa?
@Prometheus But you still don't understand the rules. The point is not convincing you can support yourself for a week, the point is convincing the consulate you have a stable situation/won't seek to immigrate illegally, an entirely different requirement.

@Prometheus The only thing you wrote about the amount is “With that, I think what you have in your bank should be sufficient to support you easily for a week, that is if you do not do something too extravagant” which is not relevant at all. Given the level of confusion in your comments, I am pretty sure you did not mention the reference amounts because you knew nothing about them…

What's a “maximum retail price”? Who sets it?

comment Europe: differences between colours of highway road-signs
One way to look at it is that signs are in fact remarkably similar. Except a few details that are unlikely to change anytime soon, like the typeface, colour background on direction signs, a bit of yellow here and there and of course the use of the local language for textual information, many things are completely harmonized. You can easily recognize a danger sign as a danger sign, a prohibition, a speed limit, etc.

I think this completely misses the point. I am willing to take a bet that if the India introduces better ID documents (not sure how this really explains anythings) and offers reciprocity, it still wouldn't get visa-free access, say, to the EU anytime soon.

(-1) What you actually need is irrelevant, there are clear guidelines about what you should have. Beyond that, it's also important to establish you have a situation in India and are not an overstay risk but that's also unrelated to how much you need to support yourself for a week.
