Bit of background of myself.

Born in the Solomon Islands. Lived in a little village on Rennell Islands until I was about 5, then in the capital Honiara until the age of 10.

We moved back to the Netherlands where I spent my high school years. I speak Dutch, though I do have to search for words after being out of the country for so long.

At the earliest convenience (17) I packed the bags and moved to Melbourne, Australia where I have been living ever since.

In 2002 I set up a travel website called Travellerspoint which has been my occupation ever since.

Travels (apart from the moves described) include trips to North America, across Europe, Russia, Japan, SEA, Scandinavia and of course various trips around Australia.

Now I have two young children, our travels are more limited. We've been on a couple of trips to the US with them. Rather than move around a lot, our focus was more on staying in one spot for a few weeks and just enjoying that location.

comment Not booking hostels in Europe this summer?
One other addition to this - you will lose choice. The best ones might be all booked up leaving you potentially in one of the worst places in town. Could still be cheap though.

comment Is wild camping possible in Germany? Where?
It would basically be illegal to set up a tent next to your car.

comment How can I get an 'invitation' to Russia?
I've used Way to Russia in the past. They also have a good page describing the process. waytorussia.net/Travel/VisaSupport.html

revised How can I travel to the North Pole, cheaply?
The previous link had a big warning saying it was discontinued since 2011 and redirecting to the norpolex.com page where the prices are also higher.

I've added it, but I don't think it's really quite what you're after.

Aren't a lot mosques also divided internally to separate males from females as well? Also, I know of some male only social clubs here in Australia. These are not public access either though, so maybe not in the scope of your question?
