comment Can growing a beard cause problems in crossing borders?
Actually, I think I'll now change my recommendation to that. :) No, I mean if you haven't gotten the photo taken, don't take it clean shaven or with a 6-month beard. Maybe a week or so of growth so you're in-between. But a half-side-beard would be pretty great for going through customs.

comment Is it wise to pretend to be Christian to safely travel through the US?
Also, don't refer to American football as "handegg" and you'll be just fine. ;-)

comment How early can you go through airport security for an International flight?
@Grzenio, through experience I've learned that you are denied for trying to go through too early, even if you have a boarding pass.

Sorry, I'll make it more clear, but that detail is included in the blockquote at the end.

comment How does one recover from a (personal) disaster while abroad, travel-wise?
If I'm caught in an earthquake, clothes are the first thing to go. :)

comment What's the best survival strategy for Running With the Bulls?
Better go before you end up valuing your safety too much.. :)

Nice! We were there on the 13th but only ran on the 14th. Did you not get another chance?

comment How do I prepare for the possibility of being mugged in the US / Caribbean?
Are you only concerned with how to buy things after being mugged, or your safety while being mugged. You could store your credit card numbers in a secure online place like Lastpass, but I don't think many stores in the US will accept a number without a card.

comment What is the best way to get from the airport to center of Buenos Aires?
Can you take Manuel Tienda Leon to any neighborhood in BA or just the centro? Is Palermo too far?

comment How to get to Patagonia from Buenos Aires?
Thanks, we'd definitely spring for the full-cama as we've had our fill of all-night sit up straight buses this year! Is US$160-200 a reasonable price? Would I be able to find a cheaper bus once I'm in BA, or better to book online prior to arrival?

comment Long layover in London, time to visit Olympics?
US citizen, I used this tool and it says for a "Visit" or "Transit" I don't need a visa.

comment Is it possible to drive to Hawaii?
@MarkMayo, preferably a way to travel with the car out there, but I realize that shipping it by itself is probably the only way, and probably not worth it, economically.

comment Vietnam visa has wrong dates, ending too early
Ended up getting a visa extension in Hoi An for $25. It took 6 days.

comment Avoiding the traveller's 'fanny pack' / money-belt
It's fine to say "don't carry cash" but what about all the times when you are moving between cities, carrying your backpack and luggage, or just had to hit the ATM to pay for your guesthouse? It's not always avoidable.

It appears I will be applying for an extension. Cheaper than changing my flight. Thanks. Good tip on the travel insurance too.

I agree on not overstaying. I should have clarified, I meant if it's a 30 day visa, does it start from the day I enter or the date on the visa. It looks like I'll be paying for an extension, which costs about the same as the visa did. :(

comment Is Songkran worth a Thai visa extension, or can you have a similar experience in Laos?
Yes it was definitely much different during the new year.

comment Travel health insurance that counts as “credible coverage”
I ended up going with HTH with a very high deductible and it was affordable, I've updated the question above. Thanks for the help!

comment Is there a standard power adaptor to use on airplanes?
I just took the flight that I was asking this question for, a Cathay Pacific 777-300 from ORD-HKG and while SeatGuru said it had "EmPower" outlets, it had the same outlet as the Air Canada one that @KateGregory mentions. I'm glad I didn't buy an adaptor.
