I like to cook, and I love my CSA. I write about those things on this little blog.

Which are the best airlines for travelling with infants? @Karlson That plane you linked to is not an a340-600. (I know it says it is, but I just flew on one two days ago. That China Eastern one might be an earlier a340 model.) SeatGuru has the correct diagram for the South African Airways one (which is what I flew). seatguru.com/airlines/South_African_Airways/… |

Can I visit vineyards in Stellenbosch without booking a tour in advance? We ended up just driving to Stellenbosch Tourism, and the woman there was great. She pulled out a map, circled her favorite places and told us a little about each one. No booking in advance, no dealing with bus schedules - it was great! |

How do I find out whether I am allowed to / have to disembark from a flight that transits at an intermediary airport? Oh, interesting. I've never had a stopover of that length before; they're usually several hours (4-6, where you clearly change planes) or 30 minutes (like the one from Kochi to Delhi via Bangalore). I'm really curious about this now, I'll do some more investigating. :) |

How do I find out whether I am allowed to / have to disembark from a flight that transits at an intermediary airport? Just wanted to report back that I haven't been able to find any site that aggregates this information. And I haven't tested enough airline websites to be 100% sure that it works the same for all of them. Will definitely keep an eye out though! |

I will do more research and if what I described above seems to be true, I'll make that comment into an answer. But for now, it's just mildly helpful but somewhat inconclusive anecdotal evidence. ;) |

How do I find out whether I am allowed to / have to disembark from a flight that transits at an intermediary airport? I believe if you MUST disembark or change planes, the airline's website normally says on your itinerary "change planes". I've had that happen on US flights (Continental, US Airways) within the US, as well as other airlines abroad (flying Delhi to Paris via Dubai on Emirates, for example, my itinerary said "Change planes" in Dubai.) If you don't have to change planes, it won't say anything. I flew Kochi to Delhi via Bangalore; the plane stopped to let people off and on, but passengers continuing to Delhi weren't allowed to leave the plane. So my itinerary just showed a stop, not a plane change. |

Can I visit vineyards in Stellenbosch without booking a tour in advance? I'll have a car, so transportation shouldn't be an issue. |

The best Keralan spices I know bell peppers are called capsicum in much of the world; what I was confused about is why "green and red peppers" are listed under "Spices in Kerala Cuisine" on Wikipedia. To me, bell peppers/capsicum are vegetables, not spices. But perhaps that's just me. :) |

The best Keralan spices @rlesko Whoops, sorry. I even pointed out that the Wikipedia page was unclear, then I did the same thing myself! Edited my answer, but I'm talking about dried peppercorns - black, green, or white (they all come from the same plant). |

Which Indian trains have shorter booking period? I would love to see an answer to this question, but I suspect you may not get one. My experiences in India are that you can't rely on anything to remain consistent - even published schedules/rules, or the ability to purchase tickets online. My friends and I once tried to book train tickets around 10pm and got a message saying the website was "closed" and to try again in the morning. I've never encountered websites being "closed" other than some observant Jewish merchant sites who don't fulfill orders on the Sabbath. |

How to successfully haggle / bargain in markets @Jonas That's probably mostly a personal choice, but my thought is: if I see/hear other people paying substantially less than what I'm being offered, I will not pay a tourist price. The economy of my home country doesn't matter much; I should pay a fair price in the local economy. That being said, I do occasionally shop at government-subsidized markets that benefit rural cottage industries, for example, and pay 2x what I would in a different market. But it's an informed and conscious choice about where I shop. I don't really blame merchants for wanting to make as much money as possible though. |

How to successfully haggle / bargain in markets @AhmedMasud I think mithy's saying to not assume that you'll get a "bulk discount". I don't know where mithy is from (or you, for that matter), but in Europe and North America, it's pretty common for people to expect a discount if they buy more than one of an item. I think "mathematics" might just have been a poor word choice; maybe "economies of scale" is better? |
