Well but at least the water canons would eliminate the need for a shower, wouldn't they?!

comment Overview of wireless in airports?
"Airport Hotspot Finder" doesn't look very useful to me. The airports i checked in Germany only lists Telecom as provider, and they are not free but rather expensive. Same with the Airports in Australia, none of them have free wifi - not on this map, and not the last time i had been there. New Zealand section is even worse; "Wellington" is under "Other regions" and Auckland is not there at all.

comment Shipping a computer from Europe to the U.S
I disagree with "As for the rest, it doesn't really matter that much.". The CPU cooler is usually very heavy and can cause a lot of damage if it falls out, or even breaks off the main board. Same with those high performance video cards who occupy 2 slots, I have seen them broken off the main board when people sent them via courier.

comment Flight from USA to Europe in March 2012
well, that's annoying since i did choose "2 adults" (check "advanced options" on the site, or the url parameters). After closer inspection i found the fine print that says "price per person" on kayak.com ...

comment Suggestions Regarding Roadtrip from Milwaukee to Niagara Falls
Just my experience. Eventually they have more accurate traffic data for the US than here? I also tend to get lost in places i don't know quite often and take the wrong turn, end up in the wrong lane etc., especially if i miss a sign or the directions are unclear. But thats the price i have to pay for being to manly to use a gps :)

Whats wrong with maps? They work without internet access and don't need a battery charge after looking at them for 4h...?

comment Help remembering name of hotel in near Łódź, Poland?
Trivia time: Was your hotel dirt, smelly and a "disgrace to the human race" (Gerrys review)? if yes, then it must be "Hotel Babel" in Brzeszcze (booking.com/hotel/pl/babel.en.html) :)

comment Are there any issues with using credit cards in Germany?
@hippietrail: yes, but i was talking about the german EC-Cards in my last paragraph, not about Credit Cards: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_cash :)

@hippitrail: "Yeah; we don't have a working spaceship yet, but we already figured out how and how much to bill you for the flight." :)

comment Geek stuff to do in Las Vegas
Atomic Testing Museum is interesting, but could be bigger or more detailed in some sections. Was quite disappointed that this was all when i reached the exit after just 2h. - otherwise it's good, but quite a walk from the strip if you don't have a car. Hoover Dam is worth a visit to, but i would consider it more a "general interest" activity. Also: "Dam' Jokes" get pretty unfunny after you hear them for the 8th time :|

comment Can I use USD in Canada?
@puri: depends on the store, sometimes they round up to the next Dollar, sometimes they charge you an extra 5%... guess it depends on how much you buy and how much they like you - there is no fixed rule for that :)

10€/d if you buy and cook something from the supermarket - didn't mean street food or restaurants.

comment Are there any issues with using credit cards in Germany?
You get one from your bank where you open your bank account; but don't ask me whichbank to choose. i think there are all the same more or less. i usually choose one that has the ATM's in the most convenient location for me.

comment How can I effectively compare data plans available in a country?
Would also vote for skype; but gmail also has a feature to call international phones. Calls from a mobile to other countries are usually a rip off from my experience, no matter which provider you choose.

comment Is Norway significantly more expensive than other European destinations?
Sure, but i that imho refers more to the costs of living - rent, power, gas, heating or things like new cars, home electronics etc. which is way more expensive because of the high taxes in Norway - but this is stuff that wont affect most travelers much who use public transport and stay in hostels. :)

comment Is Norway significantly more expensive than other European destinations?
I was backpacking from Germany up to Sweden and Norway in 2006. As far as i remember the prices for hostels where all around the 20 Euro/night mark at this time. Dresden, Germany was imho the cheapest with 16, and in stockholm 22 or 24 as far as i remember. East Germany might still be a bit cheaper than West Germany (Frankfurt, Munich or Cologne).

comment Is there a list of free accomodation resources?
Yeah, you can often get a free bed in hostels (but no pay) in Australia quite often if you work for the hostel. A bed is usually between $20 (dorm) and $40 (private room) per night in a hostel, but the minimum wage there is $15.51 per hour - so try not to get ripped off by working 6h/day in the reception for a free bed. Just sayin' :)

comment What kind of plug adapter should I pack for India?
seriously? people bring hair dryers and electric shavers on vacation? Might be cheaper to get a haircut/shave at a barber shop in india than paying extra for the excess or overweight baggage.
