they give you the false impression that the airline would actually care about your luggage. Search "baggage handler" on youtube :|

comment How does the scuba diving compare between Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay?
Disagree on the price. Byron bay is a tourist trap and get's much more backpackers and travellers, and everything i bought there (accommodation, food, tours) was way more expensive than in Coffs Harbor.

comment Backpacking in Europe for the first time
You're living on the edge, Mark :) I would not expect to find a 20 EUR hostel in each town. Even if so, all the cheap rooms might be booked out; especially during high season.

comment Car rental vs. buying a car for 1 month
Yeah; i think the insurance and registration when buying would be a dealbreaker for me. Didn't expect it to be so difficult; could get a car, registration and insurance done in AUS and NZ in 3h an then i'm on the road...

i would just need a car inside the US to avoid trouble of taking a car into another country; and the use public transport to/from us-montreal

comment How can I travel between US towns without flying
I don't think you would save on hotels. The average hotel costs about $60-100/night, but an RV will probably cost you $150/day. Plus you don't want to drive a RV inside the city where parking is a nightmare.

comment Getting from the Frankfurt-Hahn airport to Saarbrücken (Germany)
He is right about the "cheap flights" option into Frankfurt-Hahn. It's certainly not so cheap anymore if you also factor in the price for the other required transport options that get you where you really want to go; plus it usually takes you much longer than taking the direct route.

i wouldn't use this picture to promote travels to Afghanistan, because quite honest, it looks as charming and inviting as an stone quarry or open pit coal mine. Just sayin'...

comment Are there any guarded parking lots anywhere in or near Berlin, Germany?
@Gilles: there is no minimum wage in germany; but yeah, of course they try to keep it as cheap as possible and use cameras and a single guy watching ~40 monitors :|

comment TrueCrypt Volumes: Will it cause any trouble?
What are the chances? At least half the people boarding planes carry a laptop, and unless they have a bad day or you look very suspicious they wont care about you. Hint: wear a suit and a tie or something that makes you look like you are important or have money, and you are much less likely to get any hassle.

comment What are my options for transportation around the Great Plains (US)?
Why do you want to buy bus tickets 4 weeks in advance? I always walked up to the counter and got a ticket for the next bus, and i have never seen a full bus in the states anyway.

comment What are good design galleries and museums to see in Stockholm?
Well apart from that can really only think of IKEA-Stores for an exhibition of modern, Swedish industrial design. There is one in Dialoggatan, Huddinge 141 75, open Mo to Sa from 10:00 AM to 08:00 PM, free entry! :)

comment Is this a realistic backpacking trip in Europe?
You forgot the BMW museum in Munich ( www.bmw-museum.de ) near the Olympia Park for day 6/7. There is also a tall skytower/ observation platform and a park right next to it if you're not into cars.
