comment ESTA application status stuck at “Authorization Pending”. What can I do?
If the time for the conference is drawing near and you have a good relationship with a conference convenor or other affiliated academic in the US (the higher up, the better), you might ask whether that person would be willing to contact their local congressperson.

comment I was banned for drunk driving 4 years ago in the UK. Will this affect my Russian visa application?
In many states a non-injury, first-time DUI/DWI is a misdemeanor (but still criminal charge) but causing injury or multiple occurrence may up it to a felony.

comment New UK passport with new name; would the US know it's still me? Suspected outstanding warrant
OP, you said your partner bailed you out. Did he or she post a bond for bail? Is that the fine? If so, you probably now also have a charge for "bail jumping."

comment Is there somewhere I can store luggage (one or two normal suitcases) in San Francisco for a few days?
Ask the hotel you're staying at if they will keep them, particularly if you plan to stay with them after the bike ride as well.

Is your friend a citizen of Chile or Singapore? They have special H-1B1 visas available to them.

I hope you got the dates right in the application. Even if you arrive on May 1st, it's more than 4 days to May 6th.

comment Rights regarding airline schedule change
Original flight at 9am so check-in latest at 8am, 4 hours travel time from Scotland so start time around 4 am? Did you mean 9pm? How would this be easier than traveling the night before, particularly with small children?

comment Can't get a passport. Can one get a NEXUS card instead?
It could be a name mix-up with someone on a watch list. Ask for a TSA redress number. Pull credit reports to make sure identity hasn't been hacked. Check SSA record as well. Contact local representative/senator's office and ask for their help.

Virgin Atlantic once was strictly enforcing carry-on weight in London, but this was at least 10 years ago.

comment Is a No Objection Certificate really needed when applying for a UK visa?
It might be "certificate of competency" and I think it's a separate question from the one about whether UKVI requires info on whether time off work is granted and paid/unpaid.

comment How much to tip in Mumbai or India general?
@CMaster But there's a difference between, let's say in the US, with tipping the hotel maid $1-2 per day and $20 per day. I might do the latter (or more) for a cleaning up after a sick kid or for a lot of trash. $1000 tip if I were a rock star.
