Do you know what state you're going to? Here's information for California If you have a valid DL now, you can use it until you become a resident of California.

comment What is this present we received from our hotel in China?
You mentioned that you saw or received them in Beijing and Hangzhou. I was wondering if the characters on the back were the same--then possibly a saying like "good travels" or "sleep well" or different, which could still be different sayings or possibly the hotel names.

Are you transiting at the Gare des Aubrais-Orléans or the Gare d'Orléans? Wikipedia says that the TGV and Intercities transit there, not at the Gare d'Orléans station.

comment Are there any lightweight travel alarm clocks?
Previously I've used those types of analog travel alarms even at home. The analog ones always had an audible tick. To keep them going off in a bag, I just pulled the battery. Now, I'm using my android phone's clock alarm.

Are you booking in the United States? (I'm assuming that if you were using a county-local version of the website, it might have a different date format)

comment I only have $3,500 in cash and want to take a vacation somewhere really cheap for 2-3 months
Sorry, Nick. The meaning of that statement (and Max's link) is that the foreign country wants you to have a passport that is valid for at six months AFTER you enter the country. They don't want you entering the country with a visa for 30 days and a passport that expires in a week.

Unless it's changed in the last two years, Deloitte & Touche (huge US accounting firm) says there's no inheritance tax in Latvia.

That page of the USPassportHelpGuide site is wrong. If you read further, you can see they meant to say something like, "valid for six months after you arrive."

comment Will be heading to the UK soon.. What will be asked by the UK Immigration officer?
As an American traveling on business, but also taking a few days vacation, when I said that, the IO asked, "What's the main purpose of your trip?" to which I replied business. That was pretty much it.

comment Camping facilities in Yellowstone and Grand Teton
US national parks don't have restaurants? If there are any lodges, they'll have some sort of dining facilities attached to them. They may be reservations only, so you'll need to check. A very popular NP like Yellowstone will have multiple restaurants and cafeterias, but possibly not within easy distance of a campground.
