I've been working with map projections and datum transformations for years, including in ArcView GIS, ArcInfo 7 and up, MapObjects, and ArcGIS.

comment possible solution, there is ticket but not booked
The original airline did NOT honor the reservation. The new ticket was with a different airline.

If a reservation was made, but the ticket was never issued (aka confirmed), he doesn't have a valid ticket. He will have to purchase a new one. This happened to a colleague recently. Luckily we discovered it the day before and the company's travel department was able to book a new ticket for the same day of travel.

comment Passport expired while outside the US
Chasing through the pages, they do say that the proof of citizenship list is the same (that is, you can use your expired passport) but to check with the embassy that you plan to use. Here's Tijuana's.

comment Bringing laptop with US keyboard layout back into the UK
Some countries' Customs used to let you register high value goods, but I haven't been able to find anything for the UK.

Have your company prepare a paper that lists the computer, asset number, serial number etc. Does the UK have the same type of certification as a US notary public? Or put it in a sealed envelope, mail it (to get a dated postmark) to yourself, and bring it with you. Any questions, have them open it!

comment Will I get into trouble at customs if I take electronic devices for thousands of dollars into India?
@jpatokal I'm sorry for the delay, p15, halfway in the restricted goods section.

@jpatokal The link includes information about temporarily importing goods--they have to be for noncommercial use (as I stated).

@RoflcoptrException I meant high end GPS equipment rather than phone GPS devices--will revise my answer!

comment Does my 10-month-old child need a passport to cross the USA-Canada border?
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) suggest that the letter be notarized.

comment Can you freeze liquids to pass security checks?
My partner was told by TSA that he could have kept his Philly cream cheese in his carry-on IF it had been frozen. He was flying LAX-ATL-JHB.

comment Impact of not having life insurance on sponsoring B2 VISA for parents?
Form asks about life insurance and its cash value. Don't worry about it; just use zero (or whatever the instructions say to do). Not everyone has life insurance.

comment What artsy/museumy/culturalish stuff is there to do in Indianapolis?
Do you have car access? Like planes? There's a huge aviation museum at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton (2 hrs away).

comment Are there hotels where children are not allowed?
I think you're right; that it's only for permanent housing ("family status"), but it would likely still cause an uproar if the hotel wasn't a very high-end resort or a tiny B&B.

comment What is the LONGEST passenger flight (with a flight number) in the world?
"Longest" flights are always going to include crossing the equator. Once you have to do that, you can't take advantage of a near-polar route.

Love it! I may have to try that.

comment Where can I stay with a pool in room in north east USA?
An exercise/lap pool (with or without one of those motors that you swim against) or bigger? Can it be indoors or outdoors?

comment Why does the TSA allow two 3-ounce containers but not one 6-ounce container?
When I later looked at the TSA site that @nate-eldridge linked to, TSA said that 3.4 oz / 100 ml is adequate for a short trip. So knowing people really complain if they can't take anything, this is the smallest reasonable amount.

Honestly, how is this different from travel.stackexchange.com/questions/3586/… ? Although that question includes a time limit for a visit, it's otherwise completely open-ended.
