comment What are some ways to minimize the time spent in customs?
@KennyLJ "If I say I have food, they'll stop me" is based on zero experience since you say you never declare. I, on the other hand, do, and I am not stopped. My wine, candy, beach shells and whatnot are allowed in with no delay or extra time at all. Once someone took an apple: it added about 8 seconds to the process. You think you know what it would be like if you didn't lie, yet I am telling you that you're actually wrong. I'm ignoring the whole FAA thing - opinions on cell phones on planes are entirely unrelated to those on, say, apple pests or potato blight.

@KennyLJ dangerous game. Not just because you might get caught, but because those rules exist for a reason, and you might be endangering others (or their livelihoods) by breaking them - eg potato blight. If what you carry isn't dangerous, you will be allowed to bring it in, so lying is pointless and unnecessary.

@pnuts yes. Even after checking in you could, assuming you were the kind of executive flyer who reacts to things by flying, get a call at the gate saying "ooh, emergency, don't get on the plane" and you would therefore cancel your checkin and change or refund your flight.

comment Canadian citizen traveling to USA and what other documents besides passport are required?
the answer depends on your reason for traveling there. Tourism? To attend university? To start a new job? To look for a job? Marry a resident? Please edit a few more details into your question.

That sounds perfect, but for Papeete in Aug 2015(ports.cruisett.com/schedule/French_Polynesia/500-Papeete_Tahiti/…) it includes the 330 passenger boat I discovered but not the 2000 passenger Princess whatever that is coming Aug 6th and 7th. Still it is part of the resources available.

comment What to do when no search engine can find a connection that clearly exists
are you doing searches on one-way flights? That often keeps you away from cheap fare classes. See travel.stackexchange.com/q/26828/46 for example. Make sure you're searching round trips.
