comment What rights do I have if my flight is cancelled?
I guess the airlines always interpret the conditions according to "the cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided by any reasonable measure", even when they have technical issues with the plane, etc.

comment Land-based travel in the Middle East
I heard that there are no budget hotels in Oman either, but wild camping is permitted. Most people seem to hire a car there, make sure they have enough food and water and camp when they get tired. It might be costly for a solo traveler though.

Luckily we have Polish passports. I was just wondering if the Iranian consulate in London still operates.

Yeah, I usually do that. Unfortunately it doesn't filter based on the weather and malaria issues.

I always wanted to visit Iran. Is it safe though? And is it possible to get a visa in London?

comment Maps with road drivability grading
I guess it might be fairly subjective - for me the road to the cliffs was just fine... I usually get more annoyed when the road is through a never-ending several mile log villages, with traffic lights, pedestrians, etc.

comment How to use sink with separate hot/cold taps?
@hippietrail, it doesn't explain why in many new developments they would still install separate taps. And today the price difference between mixer and separate taps in negligible comparing to plumber's fees.

comment How to use sink with separate hot/cold taps?
@mouviciel, the thing is you can do the same thing with a mixer tap. And many people use option (2) mentioned above, which wastes by far the most water.

comment Rent a car in Poland without a credit card
I think that this is a usual procedure for car rental companies, no? They need to be able to recover their excess in case you crash the car.

comment Long term travel without being wealthy - how is it possible?
Agreed. And usually you have to go seriously low budget - forget about hotels with any number of stars next to the name, internal flights etc.

comment How to plan routes that aren't covered by Google Maps?
@hippietrail, the point is that the actual distances are written on the map (a number), so you don't have to estimate them. The issue is that usually the map gives you only the short distances between junctions - so you have to add them up.

comment Exiting Vancouver airport during a flight connection with New Zealand passport
In most (if not all) European countries you don't need to clear immigration when you are changing planes. So when something happens in London (be it snow or volcano), many people are stuck at the airport and can't go to a hotel because they don't have the visa.

comment What type of mosquito repellent is most effective?
I am wondering if different types of mosquitoes react in a different way, e.g. I found DEET not very effective in Eastern Europe.
