comment How to get a visa for Iran
I am pretty sure its much more difficult to get an Iranian visa if you have American passport.

comment Maps with road drivability grading
I guess it might be fairly subjective - for me the road to the cliffs was just fine... I usually get more annoyed when the road is through a never-ending several mile log villages, with traffic lights, pedestrians, etc.

comment How to use sink with separate hot/cold taps?
@hippietrail, it doesn't explain why in many new developments they would still install separate taps. And today the price difference between mixer and separate taps in negligible comparing to plumber's fees.

comment How to use sink with separate hot/cold taps?
@mouviciel, the thing is you can do the same thing with a mixer tap. And many people use option (2) mentioned above, which wastes by far the most water.

comment Rent a car in Poland without a credit card
I think that this is a usual procedure for car rental companies, no? They need to be able to recover their excess in case you crash the car.

comment Long term travel without being wealthy - how is it possible?
Agreed. And usually you have to go seriously low budget - forget about hotels with any number of stars next to the name, internal flights etc.

comment How to plan routes that aren't covered by Google Maps?
@hippietrail, the point is that the actual distances are written on the map (a number), so you don't have to estimate them. The issue is that usually the map gives you only the short distances between junctions - so you have to add them up.

comment Exiting Vancouver airport during a flight connection with New Zealand passport
In most (if not all) European countries you don't need to clear immigration when you are changing planes. So when something happens in London (be it snow or volcano), many people are stuck at the airport and can't go to a hotel because they don't have the visa.

comment What type of mosquito repellent is most effective?
I am wondering if different types of mosquitoes react in a different way, e.g. I found DEET not very effective in Eastern Europe.

comment What type of mosquito repellent is most effective?
Maybe it works for tropical mosquitoes, but for these nasty bloodthirsty bastards from Easter Europe it only works as an attractor.

As long as he is not going to Azerbaijan straight after of course :)

Yeah, I just checked and I have two separate visas.

comment How to choose a good travel insurance policy?
Blimey, they want to charge me £870.68 (for a year). Why are they 5-10 times more expensive than the competition?

comment Where can a middle-aged couple move for a couple of years working holiday and travel base?
Ah, and I forgot to ask about usual holiday entitlement - e.g. in the UK you would expect around 25 working days a year in office jobs (on top of public/bank holidays), whereas in the US you only get 10 or so. If you only get 10 days, its a bit pointless if you want to travel around.

comment Trick to breaking down air routes
I use momondo.com (which just does a search over a couple of other websites) - and this is the most effective automated way I found so far. Anyhow, usually these agencies will sell you only tickets sold by one operator, so that you can easily cancel the whole ticket, or that if your first plane is late you will get rebooked, etc. I don't think there is any place to do exactly what you are after, especially with getting a train from once city to another :) (but they might suggest to change from one airport to another if they are labelled with the same city name)

What are the expected working hours? Are they similar to the UK or rather Japan?

comment What would be an example of a currently possible overland route from Europe to Israel?
Obviously it will be much easier to get there than getting back (because of visa issues)

comment What should we plan to see on a weekend in Belfast?
Yeah, murals! They can actually take a whole day, as they are spread out and you should really see both republican and protestant ones to have a better perspective.

comment How can I effectively compare data plans available in a country?
I would also look at the virtual operators - they are often the cheapest (based on experiences from countries different than the Netherlands though).
