comment Is riding a bicycle in the parks of Glasgow allowed?
@JoeBlow in common usage as might reasonably be understood by a reasonable person. You'll notice that the relevant laws (Scotland, s.129) a) don't say pavement but also b) don't actually define the terms they use. The law isn't a formal grammar.

comment Converting US Dollars to Euros in the UK without getting screwed with two transaction fees?
15-20% of what?! As of right now, the midmarket GBP => EUR rate is 1.25 (courtesy XE); I can walk down the road to Thomas Exchange Global and get 1 GBP => 1.2325 EUR. I don't see anything being 15-20% of anything there...

comment How can I work out the price of a UK bus fare online?
+1 for the site, but I did look there for a picked-at-random bus journey operated by First, and guess what? "Transport Direct does not currently have this fare information. Check for operator fares", with a link to First's not-especially-helpful site...

comment Why is it considered so dangerous to travel in South Africa?
Those statistics don't show who the vicitims are. Somewhere where gang members kill each other but no one else will be perfectly safe for travellers, no matter how high the homicide count. Somewhere where the locals target only travellers will be extremely dangerous, no matter how low the count.

Dead link. If you can remember any of the content, you might want to edit it in, otherwise this answer is now pretty much useless.

You could work out which Köppen climate classification you like, and then search Wikipedia for places that have it...

comment Compare train ticket prices in Britain
@trg but I can buy them on eg londonmidland.com, right? I keep harping on this point because I'm reasonably certain that it's a requirement of the post-privatisation landscape that anyone who can sell tickets must sell them all

Excellent definitive answer candidate, by the way. Maybe add a link to Seat61's effort ?

comment Compare train ticket prices in Britain
"There are occasionally discounted tickets sold by a train company on their own website and not available elsewhere" - this is a new one on me. I've seen specific discounts on tickets for travel on that TOC only, but I've never seen specific tickets. Eg Southern keep emailing me a 15% discount for their website, but I can always buy the same tickets through SWT, if I want.

weatherspark.com does location -> climate very nicely (IMO), but doesn't do a search in reverse, I think.

Hi Peter. Without some information from you on stuff such as interests, budget, activity level, etc etc, this question comes dangerously close to being off topic - see also The WANTA debate. Please edit your question to include details about what you want and what you need.

Is that MU advice about the (orchestral) double bass, or the bass guitar, which is what we're talking about here?
