comment What are the two closest countries that do not share a border?
Can you clarify your question? I am not sure that qualifies as not sharing a border. They share a border. It's simply a river. Somewhere in the river there's the "imaginary" lines that separates both countrys.

comment Any alternative ways to find hostels than hostelworld or hostelbookers
It's not uncommon that hostels distribute their available beds/rooms through 2 or 3 systems. They also often keep a few for "walk-ins". So, contacting them might be an option. Another option is checking the websites frquently. The available "spare" beds may be put online if there are no "walk-ins" or if there is someone not showing up.

@JonathanReez true. Also the angle of the photo that shows a nice landscape. If you're at the tulip level you probably wont get these perspectives a flower extensions.

@MarkMayo after reading your question I have to admit they are very similar. Still my question is bit broader. I would also like to get good ideas/tactics to split the money, etc.

comment How to deal with inaccurate luggage weighing scales at an airport
That's a good answer/solution, but it still brings us to a fundamental problem. Why would the person behind the desk trust the traveler scale?

I don't know about the US, but in Europe, at least some coutries, the scale is inspected every year. It's mandatory to have a certification. Having this said, it's not impossible that for some strange reason the scale breaks. In general your question makes sense. I've been in similar situations where you either pay or loose the flight. The companies know this and you are clearly the weakest link. I would also like to know what are your rights at the airport, specially if you loose a flight ant it's proven you are right.
