That page says: "United allows domesticated cats, dogs, rabbits and birds to travel accompanied in the aircraft cabin on most flights within the U.S. ... Rules for international in-cabin pet acceptance vary widely."

It turns out that there are providers who offer SIM cards with very cheap international calling without using an additional calling card--see my answer.

Yes, it's very easy to get a SIM card in Germany. Plenty of network operators have stores where you can go, and almost all supermarkets also have re-branded discount SIM cards. To activate the SIM card, you'll need to go online and register a German address, but there is no verification.

comment Should one bring a power strip when travelling from the U.S. to Europe so that one won't have to get more than one power adapter?
I tried this, bringing a power strip from the USA to Germany. Once plugged in in Germany, there were some crackling noises, smoke came out, and it no longer worked. I guess it had some surge protection circuitry or something that didn't like 220V?

comment How to tip in the United States?
I disagree with @littleadv; Servers prefer cash. But it would be unusual to mix forms of payment.
