You always enter the US, even when transiting.

comment Why does each consul general have a specific service area?
Some countries also have honorary consuls who can provide more limited consular services, but are more dispersed throughout the country. This may or may not include accepting passport and visa applications; in such cases they'll accept the paperwork and forward it to the actual consulate. When I lived in Portland my next-door neighbor was an honorary consul for Sweden.

Nearly all of Oregon is closer to Seattle than to San Francisco via road. So, yes, I'd call SF a ridiculous choice.

comment Driving 12 passenger van in UK
@JoErNanO As another data point, let us take California as an example, one of the most restrictive US states with respect to driving. Its equivalent driver license allows driving "vanpool vehicles" (its term for minibuses) up to 15 passengers for noncommercial purposes. A CDL is required to drive a vehicle which can carry 10 or more passengers in a commercial context.

comment I am a resident of a non-Schengen country flying to the US via Dublin and Zurich. Do I need a Visa?
Dublin Airport has some unique transit issues, which I've discussed at Ireland Transit Visa when flying from IND - Abu Dhabi - Dublin - US. In short, you do not need a transit visa, and you do not need to pick up your bags, but you will go through passport control.

I don't think you meant literally eating outside.

comment US citizen from parents, no proof of citizenship. Can I reenter the US from Mexico?
Why don't you just get your US passport? I don't see what the N-600 has to do with anything. If you were born outside the US your birth should have been registered with the nearest US consulate at that time and you should have such a certificate.

Yes, if you try to apply for a visa for Slovenia in the German consulate, you will get refused because it's the wrong country!

@Vince New users may not be familiar with the editor. The best thing to do in these circumstances is to simply fix the formatting of the post, and perhaps point them to the online help for same.

comment Do I need a transit visa in Amsterdam going from Philippines to Greece, if travelling on a (government) official passport?
Well, they're both "official" in the sense that they are issued to government employees on official business, but the diplomatic passport specifically indicates someone who will have diplomatic immunity.

Diplomatic and official passports are two distinct types of passports. The first one indicates someone who will be working in a position which confers diplomatic immunity (e.g. ambassador, diplomatic courier, etc.) while the second is other government officials on official business but without diplomatic immunity.

comment I am unable to pay the heavy amount of custom duty - now what will happen to that parcel?
Sometimes you can pay to have it shipped back to the country of origin.
