comment To Apply for a visa: need “one-year health insurance” - but can only book insurance for 365 days
+1, it is even worse for French going to Canada on the same visa, they are now allowed two years, and likely need an insurance covering the whole trip.

comment How do I book a one-way ticket from Paris (CDG) to Toronto (YYZ) from Paris?
Try Air Transat or Iceland Air for reasonably priced one-way flights between Paris and Toronto

@Eugene I think the issue is not what nationality you have, but more how to prove it. In the Border Guard document, they list national ID or passports are usual pieces of ID. Maybe other documents would work but this is not systematically accepted. So in the end, it depends on the border police, and as Relaxed says, a lot on the airline staff.

@Relaxed I agree I have been trying to make it sound more like "this is worth trying flying there".

The most important information you didn't give is your nationality

comment Can I rent a car in Paris without a credit card?
@AleksG OK you're probably right, I have never done it myself but I heard it depends on the company and the country of issue of your card. Did you have a US debit card and did you go to Avis/Hertz or the cheaper Alamo/Enterprise? I think that is the difference, even though it is just what I heard.

Quickly: the Visa cards acceptance may be true in France, it is not everywhere. In the US for example, a credit card is specifically asked (to check credit history).

comment Why does my phone's GPS not work in China?
OSMAnd is also a good offline map app for Android (by the team behind OpenStreetMap). I didn't try it in China but if what you say is true, there should not be any issue.

comment Why does my phone's GPS not work in China?
@AlexC yeah you're right I think I have not been clear, I meant a difference between blocking and jamming. I meant that blocking a signal is not possible (well maybe with a thick bubble of some heavy metal but that is clearly unrealistic). Jamming is definitely possible, I don't know how powerful jammers can be.

It actually makes a lot of sense. The fact that your device knows its position in New York does not mean it uses the GPS for that (using 3G/4G provides a better precision) In fact GPS signals are coming from satellites so any obstacle, buildings or even trees, weaken or reflect the signals.

@Matthew indeed this answer would make more sense if GPSStatus says that. For me the app usually takes 10-30 seconds to go from 0/0 to 0/12 (or some other number around 10) and then the same amount of time to get the left number around 10. The rest I never really understood or looked up.
