I'm an enterprise architect working for several years for big companies in France and abroad, with a MS in Information Systems and a MBA.

During my studies, I used to work (among other jobs) as a software engineer, and still have some knowledge I can put to work and share :)

In my spare time, I like to travel, learn languages, kayak, and do plenty of other things.

comment Are there ways to keep long-distance land transport costs down in France when not planning in advance?
Now you can (but the change is recent); before, national passenger travel was a monopoly for the SNCF.

Or put them in a Unicef box at one of the participating airports.

comment Why do there seem to be no long distance buses in France?
Yes, the SNCF had a monopoly on both rail travel and national city-to-city travel since 1937... other operators had to get permission from the SNCF to open travel lines, and long-distance bus travel was seen as a direct competitor by the SNCF so never allowed.

This is still valid in 2012; I was there in July this year.

comment Vomitorium: Only common in the German-speaking world?
No, it's used to fill buckets of water to clean the floor. That's why it has the NO DRINKING WATER sign above, and the bars allow to put and pull the bucket with less effort. The two sinks allow for quicker refills. And the flushing is a normal one, as you shouldn't have anything else than dissolved dust and water in the bucket (or if you do, you'd better get them from the basin before they enter the still quite narrow exit pipes). You can find them (sometimes hidden in a cabinet) in almost every modern place where they wash the floor, including most of the public Western buildings.

comment Are there any women-only places in the world?
@Andra I do not agree: there are famous places like Mount Athos where only men can travel, so why not a question on gender-restricted destinations for women?
