comment Airport security checkpoint controlling carry-on luggage amount?
The original poster asks "how does security checkpoint verify that brought carry-on luggage conforms with airline's carry-on luggage rules." There is a change that security might say something to a passenger as a kindness, but they can't enforce an airline's baggage policy.

In the USA, airport security does not work for the airlines and will not check to make sure you comply with any airline's carry-on policy. They will check to make sure that the contents of a carry-on bag comply with TSA rules regarding prohibited items and liquids.

comment Will wearing a bright colored jacket signal that I am a tourist?
If you're concerned about pickpockets, use a money belt. I wore one in Paris in April and it felt much safer than having all of my cash and my passport in my purse. I wouldn't worry about the jacket.

comment Is cheek kissing common in the US?
And in a social setting, no friends have ever kissed me, either. Only relatives, and only parents/grandparents after the age of 11 or 12.

I am a woman, I was born in the US, and I work in IT on the East Coast of the US. No one has ever kissed me in a business setting, and I would not be comfortable with anything more than a handshake. This is just my opinion, but the less touching, the better.

comment Why do so many business hotels have HLN as default channel?
Agreed. I think the hotel (or doctor's office, etc) knows that since nothing of any substance happens on that channel, the visitor (and his or her family) won't be "surprised" by any content that might be airing when they turn on the tv. Puppy Channel still seems safer.
