In Europe you often need some printed thing to get through security. I don't think they're very regarding what's written on it as long as it has the right name and dates but they might not accept just looking at a screen and they definitely want something.

Basel would have been a better place, actually — I think you could get a stamp by walking into the German station (Basel Bad). But now Switzerland is out: since it joined Schengen, there are no more border checks. Gibraltar should be an option.
