comment Cruise embarks in Rome, visits mainly Greece ports and disembarks in Athens where I am flying out of also, which country to apply Schengen Visa in?
@Annoyed Upon reflection, you're right, a cruise is a bit of a special case. If the boat stays at sea, what country does it count as? I have no idea. I voted to reopen.

comment When going by a train from Paris to Amsterdam, can I hop off in Antwerp and then hop on again?
@HaLaBi No, Thalys trains require a reservation, and have market-based pricing so are only valid for a particular journey in a particular train (like all high-speed trains in France).

Here is an analysis on doing the Paris–Bruxelles part by non-reserved trains. It isn't necessarily cheaper, and as user3470 notes it's slow.

comment Japan: Car rental vs public transport
It depends where you want to go! If you want to stick to the cities (big and small), a car would only be a hindrance. But if you want to specifically aim for the countryside (of which there is less than in Germany), you might want to rent a car.

comment Boarding a sleeper compartment with a waiting list ticket and no reservation
@user3470 Mind you, I didn't know what it meant before today (and I probably will have forgotten tomorrow). The acronym is on Wikipedia, and the post being written in Indian English was a good hint (that, plus the insanely complicated array of classes).

@user3470 TTE = travelling ticket examiner = train conductor in India. @K.C. you should have made that clear in your question.

comment Are both the entry and exit day counted for 90/180 Schengen rule?
@wim 7 days (and 8 days in the example in your question). Extrapolating from the lowest point, if you spend just a few minutes in transit, it still counts as 1 day.
