I run loco2.com - we're trying to make it easier to book European trains because we're frustrated with how hard and confusing it can be (also we think it'd be great if people flew less because of the carbon emissions). Please feel free to ask me anything about train travel!

What are UK “rail appointed travel agents”, and where can I find one who'll sell me a ticket? Unfortunately I don't think it is that simple, as some sort of licence is required. However I will post here again if I can get some further information |

What are UK “rail appointed travel agents”, and where can I find one who'll sell me a ticket? Not as far as I know. It's also a bit of a grey area in terms of whether an online retailer would be allowed to refer to themselves as a "rail appointed agent" and therefore offer the fares. For example clicktravel.com is a TMC but also has a normal online retail site takethetrain.co.uk. It's not clear how ATOC/RSP would make the distinction here in terms of which customers they were selling to etc |

What are UK “rail appointed travel agents”, and where can I find one who'll sell me a ticket? So in order to access this fare, you would have to set up an account with a Travel Management Company/rail-appointed agent. I don't know of any rail-appointed agents that are not TMCs but there may be some out there (i.e. old-school 'offline' travel agents). |

What are UK “rail appointed travel agents”, and where can I find one who'll sell me a ticket? This is a product aimed at business travellers who usually fly to London from Scotland (hence calling it "Scottish Executive"). It is only available through "rail-appointed agents" because they are deliberately trying to capture the corporate market. This is an example of a TOC-only fare, so East Coast will be making a loss on this as they'll have to pay the full price via RSP (probably also one of the reasons they are only offering it via TMCs, otherwise the losses would be much greater). (I can add this as part of the answer if you amend the question appropriately) |

Is there a website for searching/booking European trains? Small typo, added a link, clarified Hafas situation |

Is there a website for searching/booking European trains? Hafas is not actually a database, it is a journey-planning engine (built in the programming language Java). The data that is used by Hafas is a pan-European timetable dataset called Merits. The Merits data is amended by different rail companies (particularly Deutsche Bahn) so Hafas may give slightly different results depending on where you access it |

What happens if I miss my Eurostar because of a delay in a domestic train to get to it? Adding the train tag so that it appears in my alerts :) |

Rome to Paris by train Thanks gerrit. I identified it as my website, and am always impartial in my recommendations. I only recommended my site because the user was having an issue with Trenitalia and I know the ticket can be booked on my site. I also recommended a competitors' website, and explained that they offer international delivery. |

Rome to Paris by train For this route we can offer a price of £116, which is cheaper than the €208 quoted in the original answer to the question. So we are definitely not adding costs, as the down vote implies. |

Rome to Paris by train We don't charge any booking fees so it is the same price as booking direct. We are trying to make it easier to book trains, not add costs. Raileurope-world.com is owned by SNCF (one of the companies that runs trains on this route) so that's why I recommended it. Our website loco2.com is integrated directly with the Rail Europe/SNCF booking system and the prices offered are generally the same (however there are some complexities added by the currency exchange policies applied by SNCF). |
