comment Opening a bank account with a quick debit card in Europe
Have you checked if your bank offers a euro denominated account? And/or a credit or debit card with no overseas fees and no withdrawl fees?

comment Would 1 hour layover be enough between Frankfurt and Munich if I have a transit visa and my final destination is US?
Frankfurt has more than one terminal, so that'll make a difference - which terminals do both flights use?

Is it all one ticket? And since you're changing planes twice, which airport is the one you've got the 55 minutes in?

comment Is Cambridge UK safe?
Is it for a conference involving the University? If so, try to get Uni accommodation if you can - staying in a college will be much more interesting than a random hotel on the edge of town, plus more convenient!

What did you try? How far did you get? What problems did you face along the way? What errors? What issues? Just as with things like StackOverflow, full details helps a lot!

Which thing(s) from the Seat 61 suggestions list did you try? (There are several). How far did you get with each? What problems did you face along the way?

Wouldn't help in the OP's case - they're wondering about a pre-emptive cancellation several days before a strike decision, so they can book a plane ticket instead

comment SNCF strike in June 2014
@Gilles That's interesting, the SNCF page in French suggests rules a lot more flexible on refunds than the Loco2 page in English does. I think that offer only applies during the strike though, so I'm not sure you can take it up until the unions announce that your day of travel is affected, which is normally 1-2 days before

comment Travel with a Finnish and a Pakistani Passport
What's Pakistan's view on the matter? Some countries deem that you have given up your original nationality if you take a different new one of a country that doesn't allow dual citizenship?

comment SNCF strike in June 2014
@Relaxed I still wanted to travel, so I opted for taking different trains which (eventually) got me there. My reading of the rules (as translated by loco2) is that only if you train is cancelled does a non-refundable ticket become refundable

Did you try following the Seat 61 instructions on booking Krakow to Prague tickets from abroad? Only those look fairly detailed on the options and pricing!

comment Long-life SIM cards in Europe
IIRC Popping the sim card into a suitable phone every 5 months and 2 weeks, wherever you are in the world, and sending one text message at roaming rates is a fairly cheap way to extend their lives

It generally depends on the Terms And Conditions, you'll need to read those carefully before committing!

comment Are there any night bus companies, with beds, in Europe?
In a French paper today, I spotted an article about [Somnibus](somnibus.com) which is an 18 seater bus hotel you can hire. However, it doesn't drive while you sleep - Le somnibus ne roule pas avec ses passagers : il "dort" sur place - so that looks close but no cigar...
