@MatthieuM. What's up with French people and cycling to Mongolia? My French friend did exactly the same.

comment How are Scottish hiking trails marked?
There are many trails in Scotland. Some are well-marked, others are not. but you need a map since there will be intersections.

comment Renting car without owning credit card
@JBentley I don't know if most credit cards do not prevent over-paying, but Vanquis (who issue my credit card) do not permit it. So I have a somewhat different problem to the OP: I have a debit card and a credit card. I intend to pay with the debit card, but my credit card limit may be too little for the deposit. I was told I could do the deposit with my debit card too, so I hope it's true. I'll know soon enough.

comment Renting car without owning credit card
Credit cards for people with no or bad credit history not only have high interest, but also low limits. As a new UK resident, I have such a credit card. It has 60% APR and a credit limit of £250. That doesn't do for a longish car rental in Iceland or elsewhere.

@mts I haven't flagged much more because I don't witness a lot of problems, or when there are problems they're quickly taken care of by the excellent moderator team. I do not see any major problems with the site and I think the site is on the right track to stay a major useful travel Q&A on the web.

comment Traveling from Germany to Czech Republic and back by car
@this.myself Some form of ID, yes. Passport, I wouldn't carry unless needed; they're too valuable. For the first 25 years of my life, I didn't have a passport yet I visited many European countries.

comment How to use sink with separate hot/cold taps?
@DavidRicherby I've only been in a handful of homes in North America. Not saying they don't exist, but they're not nearly as ubiquitous (relatively speaking) as in England.

@e100 I've only ever seen separate taps in the UK, but I've travelled mostly in developed countries in Europe, North America, and Asia, but not much in Commonwealth countries apart from Canada (where I've never seen separate taps).

@Neeku Hygiene, convenience, and staying alive are not prioritised. Tradition is.
