I'm a Post-Doctoral Fellow in atmospheric remote sensing at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I first came to Stack Exchange for practical reasons: Tex.SE has been of major help when I wrote my licentiate (midterm) thesis. Since then, I have discovered the joy of many websites. As my network profile will show, I'm interested in travel, outdoor, scientific skepticism, and as I work in academia, also in academia and LaTeX.

comment Travel with a Finnish and a Pakistani Passport
Is it possible to surrender Pakistani citizenship? Some countries (such as Turkey) do not permit this.

comment How could a Washington registered car travel to Zürich?
@drat There is certainly no ferry over the Bering strait, and there are no roads within thousands of kilometres from it.

comment As a French citizen, how long can I travel through Canada?
Otherwise, just head over to Saint Pierre et Miquelon for a couple of days, then return to Canada ;-) Newfoundland should be on your itinerary and Saint Pierre et Miquelon is just a short ferry ride away.

comment During a SNCF strike, how can I check what trains will run without going to the station?
@Relaxed I've seen printed timetables which had information indicated what trains would be cancelled during strikes, and what trains would continue to run.

They say that all the time. "506 Eglinton, 506 Eglinton, please call control."

In the small paper timetables it's actually written, but I don't know if this information is available online.

Officially. I don't want to get in trouble in case I need a reimbursement from a liability insurance.

How about cooking on the remote Arctic island of Bjørnøya? Unfortunately this "Førstekokk Bjørnøya" (head cook on Bjørnøya; Google Translate considered it to mean "firt cook the bear") is only available to Norwegian nationals.
