I'm a Post-Doctoral Fellow in atmospheric remote sensing at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I first came to Stack Exchange for practical reasons: Tex.SE has been of major help when I wrote my licentiate (midterm) thesis. Since then, I have discovered the joy of many websites. As my network profile will show, I'm interested in travel, outdoor, scientific skepticism, and as I work in academia, also in academia and LaTeX.

comment See nature and wildlife in China, avoid crowds
@Szabolcs I don't have specific advice, I just experience that accessible/empty/scenic are hard to combine. Indeed it is likely more expensive to travel to far-off places.

@Szabolcs Sorry, I mean the far west, of course. Accessible, empty, and scenic are probably hard to combine anywhere in the world.

China is huge, surely if you go to the east you can find completely empty land where you could roam for weeks seeing nobody?

comment Travel with a Finnish and a Pakistani Passport
@Relaxed Perhaps I got confused with Morocco. I recall in the Dutch debate on prohibiting dual citizenship (which concerns mainly (descendants of) immigrants from Turkey and Morocco) that one problem was that for some people it would be impossible to surrender their other citizenship.

comment What's the cheapest way of travelling from United States to Russia and back?
@happybuddha That's not normally possible for temporary visas, as you have to convince embassy staff that you have ties to the country you're applying from and that you're not going to stay indefinately.
